Savage System - Edyta Hul Solo Exhibtion

The upcoming solo exhibition Savage System by Edyta Hul at Volery Gallery delves into the intricate entanglements of nature, abstraction, and primal survival. As a visual artist based in Warsaw, Hul’s work transcends traditional representations of landscape and organic forms, evolving into complex, layered compositions that embody the raw forces of existence.

Winner of the Grand Prix of the 46th Painting Biennale Bielska Jesień 2023, Edyta Hul has established herself as a leading voice in contemporary abstraction. Through a distinct combination of artistic oil paints and industrial enamels, her canvases achieve an immersive depth, where transparency and density coexist in delicate equilibrium. Her artistic process thrives on the layering of materials—thin, rhythmic applications that build an ecosystem of shifting textures and emergent forms.

Savage System presents a world in which everything is irrevocably entwined. The visual language of Hul’s paintings mimics an ecological network—fluid, recursive, and in a constant state of transformation. Her surfaces, dense with interwoven loops and tangled masses, construct a domain where nature has discarded all conventional boundaries. Within this abstract wilderness, nourishment, decay, metamorphosis, and adaptation unfold in cyclical rhythms. The paintings suggest a primordial struggle for existence—pulsing with an energy that straddles the line between biological familiarity and surreal otherness.

Hul’s work often gestures toward organic entities without ever fully defining them. In Savage System, hints of reptilian textures, avian plumes, membranous skins, and embryonic forms emerge from the layers of paint. Shiny enamel accents evoke the wetness of foliage, the slick sheen of amphibious bodies, or the refracted light across aquatic surfaces. These surfaces breathe and pulse, resisting easy categorization while simultaneously conjuring a new taxonomy of hybrid creatures—organic yet unfamiliar, feral yet fragile.

The sense of enclosure within these works reflects an immersive experience, as if the viewer is stepping into an infinite landscape of organic proliferation. The absence of a fixed perspective allows for a continuous unfolding of shapes, reinforcing the notion of nature as a system without hierarchy—a self-perpetuating loop where life and dissolution exist in constant dialogue.

Through Savage System, Edyta Hul constructs a world where entanglements of form and matter resist resolution. The paintings invite us to explore what lies beneath the surface—beyond the human gaze and into a dimension where nature operates on its own relentless logic. A speculative ecosystem, a field of primal forces, a territory yet to be mapped—this is the realm of Hul’s painterly vision.
