The Higher We Soar - Mariana Oushiro Solo Exhibition

Volery Gallery is pleased to present “The Higher We Soar,” a solo exhibition by Japanese-Brazilian artist Mariana Oushiro, marking the culmination of the V-Residency program. Throughout her residency, Oushiro has developed a new body of work that pushes the boundaries of abstraction, inviting the viewer into a dynamic exploration of movement, perception, and spatial depth.

Oushiro’s distinctive practice merges bold strokes of color, sharp lines, and geometric forms, drawing from her dual cultural heritage. Influenced by the expressive vibrancy of Brazilian art and the precision of Japanese aesthetics, her compositions balance controlled structure with raw intensity. Each piece pulsates with energy, reflecting an interplay between order and chaos, intuition and calculation.

In “The Higher We Soar,” Oushiro continues her exploration of dimensionality and the relationship between space and form. Her layered approach to color and texture creates immersive compositions that seem to extend beyond the canvas, challenging the viewer’s sense of stability and balance. The works act as windows into a world where structure dissolves and reconfigures, guiding the eye through shifting planes and fragmented perspectives.

This exhibition serves as both a culmination and a departure, showcasing the evolution of Oushiro’s practice while offering a glimpse into new artistic directions. “The Higher We Soar” is an invitation to experience abstraction as a visceral, multi-sensory language—one that speaks to both the intellect and intuition, navigating the space between rigor and release, stillness and motion.
