BIOGRAPHY
Yuichi Hirako works in various mediums such as drawing, sculpture and sound performance, while he works primarily with paintings. His work’s central theme is the coexistence between plants, nature and humans, tackling the ambiguity and questions that arise from the relationship and exploring the boundaries between them in modern society.
Hirako’s work has been featured in several solo exhibitions, including Memories, WAITINGROOM, Tokyo (2019); Dandelion, ZERP Gallery, Rotterdam (2019); Leftover, Dai-ichi Life Gallery, Tokyo (2018); BLOOM, YIRI ARTS Taipei Space, Taipei, Taiwan (2018); Project N 71, Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery, Tokyo (2018); SPROUT, Gallery Christoffer Egelund, Copenhagen (2017) and Our way to the Forest, Fouladi Projects, California (2016). His work has also been featured in numerous group exhibition including TOKYO☆VOCA, Dai-ichi Life Gallery, Tokyo (2020); Look and Talk, Sakura City Museum of Art, Chiba, Japan (2019); CYGNUS LOOP, Gallery BATON, Seoul (2019); SUMMERTIME 19, Galleri Christoffer Egelund, Copenhagen (2019); MUSUBI, Galerie Da-End, Paris (2018); New Works, The Drawing Room, Manila (2017) and Après Toronto, Laroche/Joncas, Montreal (2017) among others.
He was awarded Mr.I Prize, Okayama (2020); The VOCA Encouragement Prize, Vision of Contemporary Art, Tokyo (2013); Outstanding Performance Award, D Art Biennale, Aichi (2011); The 10th Gunma Biennale for Young Artists, The museum of modern art Gunma, Gunma (2010); Tokyo Wonder Wall Prize, Tokyo Wonder Wall, Tokyo (2010) and Shell Art Award, The National Art Center, Tokyo (2009).
Hirako graduated from Wimbledon College of Art, UK, with a Fine Arts degree in painting (2006). Born in 1982 in Okayama he currently lives and works in Tokyo.

PAST EXHIBITIONS
Volery Gallery presents Domesticity group exhibition, curated by Sasha Bogojev Curator and Contributing Editor at Juxtapoz Magazine. The inaugural exhibition presents a selection of all-new, previously unseen, original works by 17 international artists.
