BIOGRAPHY
TIDE is most renowned for his “CAT” works, a series of canvas works featuring his signature cat character within a monochrome domestic setting. His subjects might appear pure and playful; however, each painting portrays elements that create a vague sense of unease. A perpetual conversation between light and dark, innocent and evil, makes TIDE’s paintings both comforting and alarming.
TIDE’s work has been shown in solo exhibitions such as Debut, Gallery Common, Tokyo (2020); Sweet Home, Online Exhibition (2020) and Phantomroom, Super Blank - Okayama, Factory - Kagoshima, Japan (2019). His work has also been shown in group exhibitions, including Summer Gathering, GR Gallery, New York (2020); Drawn Together, Unit London (2020); Stranger Things, Ramp Gallery, London (2020) and Art Fair Tokyo 2021, Tokyo, Japan (2021). With upcoming exhibitions in New York and London, he is attracting a great deal of attention in the contemporary art scene both in Japan and abroad.
Born in 1984 in Japan, he currently liives and works in Tokyo.
