BIOGRAPHY
Nina Bachmann’s works blur the contours of conventional identity while playfully mocking what she calls “the absurdities of high society.” She humorously deals with ordinary everyday situations, questioning the pursuit of perfection and the ideal effect on our environment. Colourfully she works with ecstatic emotional states and eccentric physicality. The boundaries between banality and absurdity, honesty and vanity blur, leaving the viewer with an uncertain sense of pleasure. Her exaggerated yellow figures fill the entire medium in the process. She gathers her ideas by observing society.
The subjects in Nina’s works are euphoric, intoxicated, and jubilant. But their anxious grimaces betray their insecurities and the lingering awareness that all this excess cannot last. And it is this duality that Nina aims to convey to her viewers, who, perhaps seeing themselves reflected on the canvas, are meant to receive a “tenuous pleasure” from her works.
Using bright and garish colours, Nina gives her viewers a visual feast upon which to gorge as they reflect on their place in the scenes they see before them.
Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions, including Sugar in your Eyes, La Causa Galeria, Madrid (2021); Ich hab so gern Vergnügen, No Depression Room, Munich (2021) and So viel Zeit muss sein, Ruffini Munich (2020). As well as a group exhibition at Moosey, London (2021).
She received a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Design at the University of applied Sciences Munich (2016).
