BIOGRAPHY

Mathieu Cherkit is a painter whose primary subject is his house where he and his family reside. The paintings invite the viewer to an intimate journey through the artist’s environment and daily life. His work features staircases, different rooms from his house as well as the garden surrounding it. He uses oil paint to create vivid paintings with various perspective, incorporating elements of abstractions and figuration.  

His work has been exhibited in several solo exhibitions, including New Day, Jean Brolly Gallery, Paris (2020); Cache-cache, Gallery Albada Jelgersma, Amsterdam (2019); Cluedo, Galerie Julio Gonzalez, Arcueil, France (2019); Territoire, Galerie Jean Brolly, Paris (2018); Temps mort, Gallery Albada Jelgersma, Amsterdam (2017) and Daily Wonders, Tajan, Paris (2017). His work has also been featured in numerous group exhibitions, such as Passage, Galerie Jean Brolly, Paris (2021); Coups de soleil, galerie Provost Hacker, Lille, France (2020); Portraits Forever, The Gallery Tajan, Paris (2020); White plate, white cup, Galerie Jean Brolly, Paris (2020); Tout doit disparaître, Galerie Provost Hacker, Lille (2019); New Classics, Galerie C.O.A., Montreal (2019) and La maison, visions d’artistes, Musée Robert Dubois-Corneau, Brunoy, France (2019) among others.

He was awarded Jean-François Prat Prise, Bredin Prat, Paris (2013); Science-Po pour l'art contemporain Prise, Paris (2013) and Antoine Marin Prise, France (2011). 

He received his Visual Arts National Diploma from School Fine Arts De Nantes Saint-Nazaire in Saint-Nazaire, France (2008), he attended Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig in Leipzig, Germany (2009) and received his Higher National Diploma of Plastic Expression from School Fine Arts De Nantes Saint-Nazaire in Saint-Nazaire, France (2010). Born in 1982 in Paris, he currently lives and works between Vallery and Paris.
