BIOGRAPHY
Hiroya Kurata is a visual artist working primarily with paintings that are inspired by daily life snippets, his paintings serve as a visual diary of sorts for Kurata. He portrays glimpses of moments spent with his family in his gestural, imaginative style, he offers the viewer symbols of hope.
Kurata’s work has been exhibited in several solo exhibitions, including Rudy, Over the Influence, Hong Kong (2021); When mother was young, Over the Influence, Los Angeles (2020); Union st, Monya Rowe Gallery, New York (2019); Bat Walk, Koki Arts, Tokyo (2019) and This land was your land, Ivory & Black Soho, London (2012). His work has also been exhibited in group exhibition, such as Summer Summer, Ross and Kramer Gallery, East Hampton (2021); Game on!, Hollis Taggart Gallery, Connecticut (2021); Mirrored, Destroy your habits, Tokyo (2021); Nostalgia, Turn Gallery, New York (2021); Anecdote, Stems Gallery, Brussel (2020); Bloom, Over Under Room, Brooklyn (2019); Coffee for eight, Part 2 Gallery, Los Angeles (2019) and Works on paper, China Heights Gallery, Sydney Australia (2017) among others.
Kurata received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Parsons School of Design, New York in 2003.
