BIOGRAPHY
Guy Yanai’s paintings feature everyday objects and spaces that are flattened and simplified. His style is characterised by smooth brush strokes, tight compositions and bright, vivid colours. The paintings reference found images to navigate themes of authorship and attempt to condense the enormous data everyone receives through media platforms.
Yanai’s work has been exhibited in numerous solo exhibitions, including Eté 2020, Niels Kantor Gallery, California (2020); LIFE IN GERMANY, Conrads Gallery, Düsseldorf (2020); Guy Yanai, Miles McEnery Gallery, New York (2019); The Conformist, Praz-Delavallade, Paris (2019); Boy on An Island, Galerie Conrads, Düsseldorf (2018); Calm European, Flatland Gallery, Amsterdam (2017) and Love of Beginnings, Galerie Derouillon, Paris (2017). His work has also been exhibited in several group exhibtions, such as Constructing an imaginary, Badr El Jundi Gallery, Málaga, Spain (2020); La terre est bleue comme une orange, Praz-Delavallade, Paris (2020); High Voltage, Nassima-Landau Project, Tel Aviv (2020); Awake, Mayo Contemporary, County Mayo, Ireland (2020); INTERIORS: hello from the living room, 1969 Gallery, New York (2020); Leaving and Returning, Braverman Gallery, Tel Aviv (2020); Flowers are part of our story and our history, Faltland Gallery, Amsterdam (2020) and Proposals for a Collection, Annarumma, Naple (2019) among others.
Yanai completed residencies at Villa Lena Residency Program, Tuscany, Italy (2014); Artis Contemporary Art Fund, Tel Aviv (2012); Upstate Workspace, Zach Feuer Gallery, New York (2009) and Frans Masereel Centrum, Kasterlee, Belgium (2008).
He attended Parsons School of Design, New York in 1996; Pont Aven School of Art, Pont-Aven, France in 1996 and The New York Studio School, New York in 1997. Yanai received his Bachelor of Arts from Hampshire College, Massachusetts in 2000. Born in 1977 in Haifa, he currently lives and works in Tel Aviv.

Volery Gallery presents Domesticity group exhibition, curated by Sasha Bogojev Curator and Contributing Editor at Juxtapoz Magazine.
