Eidolon - Laura Garcia-Karras Solo Exhbition

Volery Gallery is proud to present Eidolon, a solo exhibition by French artist Laura Garcia Karras, on view from April 18 to May 17, 2025. In this deeply evocative series, Karras explores the spectral space between presence and absence, giving form to what lingers just beyond perception.

Rooted in the ancient Greek word Eidolon—meaning phantom, double, or apparition—the exhibition becomes a meditation on memory, loss, and the persistence of desire. Karras’s works appear as delicate traces of something once vivid, now fading, like the echo of a body or the glimmer of a vanishing dream.

Her compositions unfold in a state of fragile tension. Vivid color and expressive gesture meet dissolution and silence. Figures emerge only to dissolve again. Surfaces shimmer with sensuality, yet beneath them lies a quiet melancholy. The organic and the mineral, the sacred and the sensual, coexist in a state of suspended transformation.

As Karras writes:

“We live surrounded by ghosts. Bodies fade, but leave imprints. Desire wanes, yet its echo remains. Artifice dazzles, but beneath its glow, matter disintegrates.”

With Eidolon, Laura Garcia Karras captures the moment just before disappearance—when the image still burns, when the trace still holds weight, when art becomes the haunted double of life. Her paintings are not depictions; they are apparitions. They do not narrate; they evoke. They invite viewers into a space where longing is form, and beauty is always on the verge of vanishing.
