Estelle Tcha

BIOGRAPHY

Born in Seoul, Estelle Tcha spent her formative years in Australia before moving back to Seoul, then building her practice in Boston, London, Paris, and New York. She earned a BA in philosophy and communications and media studies at Tufts University and BFA in fine art and art history at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. With an interest in UX and gamification, she followed this with an MA at Columbia in Design and Development of Digital Games in 2023 and is currently researching and developing an app that seeks to digitize and make art therapy accessible to all. An aspiring polymath, she converges her multidisciplinary and academic background to navigate intricate narratives and conceptual solutions, cross-pollinating mediums such as fashion, technology, video and photography.

In her painterly practice, her main topics of interests are energy, experience, engagement, and she unfolds her philosophical inquiries through the relationship of self-self, self-others, self-world with a basis in asian philosophy. Both the intuitive and transcendental meaning of color and the lack thereof are important tools, as are cultural, historical and philosophical metaphors. Each series that Tcha has been developing, from Cyclicality, Smoking Zodiacs and eee Universe to name a few, Tcha fosters a dialogue that transcends the boundaries between inner contemplation and external expression which she regards as fundamental to her artistic practice. Through her visceral visualizations, Tcha aims to instigate thought and dialogue.
