BIOGRAPHY
Andrew Schoultz has a pictorial approach to social and political commentary. Having presented his work in various contexts from museums to galleries to public murals, Schoultz is known for his densely layered artworks exploring patterns in history related to war, natural disasters, and globalization. Inspired by underground comics, graffiti, German map-making, the archaic illustrations of the Nuremberg Chronicle of 1492, and Persian Miniatures to name a few, the artist’s work is profoundly chaotic both visually and thematically.
Schoultz’s work has been shown in numerous solo exhibitions, including Mother Nature, Father Time, Hosfelt Gallery, California (2020); Vessels: New Work by Andrew Schoultz, Denk, California (2019); Full Circle, Joshua Liner Gallery, New York (2018); Beast of Burden, Droste Wuppertal Gallery, Wuppertal, Germany (2018); This Marvelous and Turbulent World: New Work and Installation by Andrew Schoultz, Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Indiana (2018) and Andrew Schoultz “Subtle Beast,” Galerie LJ, France (2017) among others. His work has also been shown in over 80 group exhibitions, such as Organized Chaos, MAGMA Gallery, Bologna, Italy (2019); Between Them: An Installation Composed of Drawings, Hosfelt Gallery, California (2019); Homecoming, Galerie LJ, Paris (2019); Hi-Fructose Presents: The Art of The Mushroom, The Compound Gallery, California (2018) and Drawings from the Collection 1980 to Today, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, California (2017). Weisman Art Foundation, California; Fidelity Investments Corporate Contemporary Art Collection, California and Colección SOLO, Madrid.
